Belmont Park Horse Trials 2008

The good viewing at Belmont means that you can follow both the good & the bad fortunes & particularly in the Novice there was a lot to test the brakes, steering, & accuracy. There were those riders who felt that they weren’t going quick enough, but there were also those who paid the penalty for not being in control.

Much has been said about the lowering of the age limit, but it has been interesting that a lot of the youngsters have coped far better with both the conditions & the courses than some of their older & more experienced competitors

After heavy rain on Saturday afternoon it was a relief to see the sun on Sunday, it didn’t take Selina Elliott to discover that the red Belmont mud had made a an unwelcome return when she was unseated in the xc collecting ring. A lot of people have said that they are having trouble getting the mud out of numnahs etc, so if anyone has got any good tips on removing it can they let me know & I’ll pass it on. At least everyone leaves with a souvenir anyway.

Belmont quotes.

“Actually the Novice looks quite good…lets just see whether we can get round the Pre-Novice though ! ”
“ I’m afraid that’s a fall for the fence judge !! ” Heard between the course change from Pre-Novice to Intro.

My favourite from the weekend was “ I wouldn’t do that, we’re watching you ” heard during the change from the Into to Novice. Please keep your ideas to yourselves on this one !!
